Taro Nasu Gallery

TARO NASU GALLERY opened in 1998 with an exhibition of British photographer Henry Bond. The gallery was originally based in the Shokuryo Building with Tomio Koyama Gallery and Rice Gallery (organized by Gallery Koyanagi and SHUGOARTS), creating together a new tide in the Japanese contemporary art scene. As part of this cutting edge site, TARO NASU GALLERY has represented a new generation of artists who have not yet fully established, but whose works can be seen in the context of critical thought in contemporary art. With an average of eight shows annually, the gallery has organized a number of solo shows of young emerging artists from Japan including Takeharu Ogai & Ai Ogawa, Taiji Matsue, Ryuji Miyamoto, Nobuya Hoki, as well as European artists such as Paul Morrison, Peter Pommerer, Alessandro Raho and David Thorpe.

 

Due to the demolition of the Shokuryo Building, TARO NASU GALLERY has moved to a new space in Roppongi – an area rapidly evolving as the new center of contemporary art in Tokyo – from April 2003.

 

TARO NASU GALLERY has also collaborated in museum exhibitions, including a solo show of Satoshi Watanabe at the Mitaka City Arts Center, Tokyo (2001) and the ‘Private Luxury’ exhibition (2002) at the Manno Art Museum in Osaka. Through such diverse approaches TARO NASU GALLERY works for further recognition and development of contemporary art in Japan.
