Bernhard Martin: Fred the Bear

Bernhard Martin uses many techniques including crafts and carpentry in his sculptures, paintings and art objects. He states “What I am interested in is the clash between worlds, islands, chambers of marvels, biotopes, contrasts. In other words, everyday life.” His multi-faceted works thrive on his artistic appropriation from the history of art, which he integrates into the ‘microcosm of the media society and society in general’. Martin acts as a meticulous chronicler of the everyday through his work, not only recording, but also leaving scope for contingency.
