Zilvinas Kempinas

Born 1969 Plunge, Lithuania

Zilvinas Kempinas was born in Plunge, Lithuania in 1969 and moved to the U.S. to pursue an MFA in 1998. Upon graduating, Zilvinas embarked on a series of critically acclaimed exhibitions, beginning with the solo presentation of ‘Flying Tape’ at Spencer Brownstone Gallery in 2004, and including two further solo exhibitions at the gallery, most recently ‘White Noise’ in 2007.

 

The artist has also featured in solo presentations at PS1, New York, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, the Contemporary Art Center, Vilnius, Lithuania, and Kunsthalle, Vienna. He is a recipient of both the Calder Prize and the Atelier Calder studio residency and was chosen to represent Lithuania at the 2009 Venice Biennale.
