Wolfram Sachs

Wolfram Sachs, born 1965 in Frankfurt/Main, is a graduate of the prestigious Staedelschule art academy, where he completed his Master’s degree under Per Kirkeby, followed by residency at the esteemed Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, USA. Sachs’ compelling paintings, though predominantly abstract, are deeply rooted in the German landscape painting tradition, reaching back to Albrecht Altdorfer, through Caspar David Friedrich to Anselm Kiefer.

Sachs’ studio is, indeed in the countryside, outdoors, where he leaves his monumental Turneresque pieces to age and weather with the seasons. A masterful – almost violent – brushwork captures the vast and changing landscape in an array of multihued layers and shapes that convey the mutable natural beauty around us.
