VOLTA3 EDITION MARTIN LIEBSCHER | Germany born 1964 in Naumburg, former East Germany
represented by VOGES GALLERY
For VOLTA3, Berlin based artist Martin Liebscher created an original artwork entitled "Picasso", which portrays the artist himself in the different roles of Robert Capa’s famous photograph of Pablo Picasso with Francoise Gilot at Golfe-Juan in France in 1948. The work is part of his “Familien Bilder” series, which he started in 1991. In these "Family Pictures", which often assembles a cast of thousands Liebschers and can easily take up six months to complete, the artist performs every possible function with a wit and verve bordering on maniacal. From the loss of identity to the diversity of the self or the question of Fate, Liebscher addresses philosophical topoi in these spectacular and dramatic orchestration.
