The artist Sea Hyun Lee’s latest titled “Between Red,” contain work of stunning landscapes using sharp red pigment on stark white canvases. The mountains that exist in his work are of actual mountains that had existed in Korea but have been altered by commercial development. His countless hours spent staring at the DMZ with night-vision goggles also cloud his visually stunning work.
A powerful play on memory, nostalgia, dream and fear coupled with strong connotations, both positive and negative, of the sharp red color bolster his memorable work. Lee received his M.F.A. from Chelsea College of Art & Design and his M.F.A and B.F.A from Hongik University in Seoul, Korea. Currently living and working in London, he most recently exhibited his solo show at Aspex Gallery (Portsmouth) and will show in July at Harewood House. Upcoming group exhibitions include the Ljubljana Biennale and the Moscow Biennale in September 2009.
