Nicholas Woods

Nicholas Woods was born in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1971. He studied at The Tyler School of Art in Rome and received a BA in Art at Middlebury College in Middlebury,Vermont. After completing his studies he moved to New York and worked as a studio assistant to Jeff Koons.

Working primarily in painting, Woods explores new ways of looking at classical genres such as landscape and portraiture working in a highly experimental fashion that tests the material and formal boundaries of paint. While at times his work has bordered on the surreal, his most recent paintings approach landscape as a psychologically charged event.

Woods has exhibited widely in Europe and the U.S.
From 1999 - 2004 he formed a collaborative partnership with the Spanish artist Mónica Fuster, working on largely site-specific installation projects.
His work is represented in major public collections including Fundación La Caixa and Fundación Caja Madrid.
