The installations and picture worlds of Matthias Männer emanate from an imaginary world, where technoide and partly organically seeming figures have won the upper hand. The installation objects are based on simple geometrical forms and are mostly prototypes or models for hypothetical monumental sculptures. On account of their dimensions, actual execution would be utopian.
Extending from a central trunk the sculpture grows outwardly and every new branch is a reduced effigy of the preceding one. This process of self-reproducing is reminiscent of natural forms and can basically continue endlessly, hence, the model represents a relatively early state of development depicting a degree of about four steps. 2008 he is the winner of the Leonhard-und-Ida-Wolf-Gedächtnispreis. Motoko Dobashi and Matthias Männer founded in 2003 the Nonprofit space “Raum500”. Well known for their innovative exhibition program the Raum500 got an important role in the Munich Off-scene.
