Mariusz Tarkawian

Born 1983, lives and studies in Lublin (Poland)

Tarkawian is a very careful observer. Like a reporter he notes events and situations with rapid and very exact drawings on paper. His drawings capture the ephemeral moments. Usually they are created during conversations he discreetly overhears, he chronicles the situations, catches fragments of sentences and draws postures of interlocutors. They are unique notes, passed through the filter of the artist's personal feelings (series “Peeped Drawings 2006). In series "Looking for art" (2006-2008) Tarkawian puts the works of art of young Polish artists right next to works of already established contemporary artists. The artist himself becomes here a collector, making a conscious choice. He creates his own private collection of works of art that came to being after 1990. Project "In Anticipation of art" is a continuation of many years of working on the "Looking for art". Gained experience has inspired the artist to face the difficult theme: futurology of art in the context of contemporary artistic creation. Questions which has been asked are the straight consequence of those experiences and causes intriguing relation between what it is and what it could be - does boredom exist in art? Is art predictable? In what degree must it be logical, constant, consequent? Does such attitude set free or enslave?
