Marcelo Silveira

Born 1962 in Gravatá, Brazil

Lives and works in Recife, Brazil

Almost from the beginning, the work of Marcelo Silveira has expressed the imprecise and hybrid nature of contemporary visual art, in which media are mixed and the space of artistic production becomes confused with the broader cultural context. Although Silveira’s work can, viewed superficially, be classified as sculpture, to a significant degree it does not fit into the conventions of this medium, breaching the boundaries, which have been fragile for a long time, between sculpture, painting, drawing and installation-art. Work from distinct periods typifies, in a variety of ways, this discomfort that lies at the origins of the production of the artist.

He has participated at V Bienal do Mercosul, Porto Alegre, Brazil, Panorama da Arte Brasileira – Contraditório, Alcalá 31, Madri, Spain, 2008, 4ª Bienal de Valência. Centro del Carmen – Museo de Bellas Artes de Valencia, Valencia, Spain, 2007
