John Goto

Born in 1949 in Stockport, U.K.

“Digital technology has created a synthesis between forms of painting and photography.” (John Goto)

With compositional references to the history of classical painting, John Goto’s collages look at European history and contemporary events: the invasion of natural landscapes, the exacerbation of consumerism, globalization or the Irak war. “Goto's satires are flavoured with a disarming, often semi-humorous affection for the intricacies of nature and the fallibilities of human behaviour. The all enveloping atmosphere suggests that the man with the lens is in there with the rest of them, wondering what the hell is going on and when on earth it will all end.” (Robert Clark)

John Goto’s exhibitions include solo exhibitions at Tate Britain and National Portrait Gallery (London) and exhibitions in private and public institutions in Munich, Barcelona, Prague, Oporto, Seoul and Singapore.
