Jakob Mattner
presented by 401 contemporary
Born 1946 in Lübeck, Germany Lives and works in Berlin, Germany
In his collotype prints, sculptures and drawings Jakob Mattner focuses on ephemeral phenomena and transitional moments, thus highlighting a realm of the “in-between” - between day and night, light and shadows, dreaming and waking, movement and rigidity, appearance and reality. It is this crucial moment of transition from one state to another that generates an extremely existential and philosophical dimension in Mattner’s work. At the same time, the use of light, in all of its functions, meanings and manifestations, serves as a leitmotif throughout the work of the artist.
