Futo Akiyoshi creates a series of golden paintings “Room”, since 2002. By very minimal way of using effect of light and perspective, the series poses the essence of the meaning of paintings – to create virtual space of three-dimension on canvases.

This simple concept and style of Akiyoshi’s creation is sometimes talked very “Japanese”. This is a big challenge for him, confronting how young Japanese artist could create originality within the field of oil painting, which has always been the majority of Western art history. Within his unique creation, Akiyoshi boldly challenges and succeeds in illustrating the enthralling fusion of aesthetics of new generation and old legitimacy of painting.
