Born in 1975 in Casablanca, Morocco
Bouchra Khalili has devoted herself to video work, both in single channel and installation form, since 2002. Her video works deal with the notions of displacement, migration and frontiers. They focus on the Mediterranean region (Turkey, Italy, Spain, Morocco, France) as an imaginary territory where to meet with the notions of identity and distance.
Her works wander in physical and mental geographies and it is on purpose that she brings visual, spatial and sound disconnections in videos that are at the crossroads of cinema, visual arts, documentary and fiction and that experiment with the visual and conceptual limits of these media.
