Alberto Baraya

Born 1968 in Bogotá, Columbia

Alberto Baraya's project Herbarium of Artificial Palnts, 2002-2008, questions the scientific paradigm, the post-colonial societies and also establishes a reflexion upon quotidian aesthetic acts. He built a large collection of artificial plants, made out of plastic or fabric, collected from the places they were used as decoration. He then produces botanical slides, detailing the false plant parts and
characteristics.

For the 27th Biennial of São Paulo Baraya proposed the Project Latex Tree, a set of
pieces about the crude history of latex exploitation in Amazonas. Alberto Baraya is part of the 53rd Venice Biennale .
