Javier Piñón

Born 1970 in Miami, USA

Piñón has begun to focus his meticulous collaging techniques and surrealist sensibility on classic accounts of religion, mythology, and literature. He has remained preoccupied with the cowboy, long his stand-in for the universal man, and recasts this protagonist in the legends of heroes, martyrs, and gods. The figures wrestle to overcome absurd situations in comic-tragedies of classical proportions. His collages will be in the 2008 Beijing Biennale and were included in the biennial at El Museo de Barrio, New York.
