Rachel Owens

Born 1972 Atlanta, USA

Rachel Owens: Shredded car tires, shards of broken beer bottles, discarded oil canisters, and other pedestrian materials are the fodder for Owens’s sculptures and installations. Sardonically emulating the manner of traditional public statuary and monuments, their wrecked materials are reconstituted as texture, substance, and metaphors for America’s ideological and domestic conflicts. Her major installation, Groundswell, was on view at Mark di Suvero’s Socrates Sculpture Park through March 2008.
