Eddie Martinez

Born 1977 in Groton, USA

Though his style is unabashedly untrained, Martinez is uninhibited from his dialogue with the masters of early modernism, from Picasso to Matisse to Marsden Hartley. The classic hierarchy of genres (still lifes, landscapes, interiors, portraiture, and history scenes) are jumbled into single canvases and drawings that capture the artist’s riotous interpretation of contemporary life. His March 2008 exhibition at ZieherSmith was accompanied by a two volume publication co-produced by PictureBox Inc. His work has also been recently seen in shows at Deitch Projects, New York, Blum & Poe, L.A., and Peres Projects, Berlin.
