Aki Kuroda

Aki‘s début of his innovative series of limited edition sculpture-furniture, was first shown at the Rabih Hage gallery in London, 2007. The ‘CosmoCity’ exhibition provided an inspiring platform from which to view his diversity and evolution over the last sixteen years. His ‘Flower Bench’ and ‘Manga Sofa’ challenge the boundaries of any designer’s imagination. Beautiful, vivid and unique, they are a mixture of rational functionality with surreal shapes. His flexible and adventurous approach to making art has resulted in diverse projects, ranging from collaborations with Tadao Ando for a residential building mural in Osaka (Japan), to creating sculptural walls and murals with Richard Rogers for a theatre in Kyoto (Japan). He has had numerous solo shows internationally and his work is also part of the permanent collections of the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo (Japan), National Museum of Art, Osaka (Japan) and the Maeght Foundation (France).
