Marco Maggi

Born 1957 in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Marco Maggi creates a thesaurus of the infinitesimal and the undecipherable. He creates pocket universes of capillary labyrinths and erects monuments on sheets of paper, kitchen foil or in Plexiglas cubes. Composed of linear patterns that suggest circuit boards, aerial views of impossible cities, genetic engineering or nervous systems, Marco Maggi’s drawings and sculptures encode the world. Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, Marco Maggi lives and works in New Paltz, New York. Recent exhibitions include: New Perspectives in Latin American Art, 1930-2006: Selections from a Decade of Acquisitions, Museum of Modern Art, New York (2007-2008); by disappointment only, Josée Bienvenu gallery (2007-2008); Poetics of the Handmade, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA (2007). He will have a solo booth at the 2008 NEXT Art Fair in Chicago and solo shows at Nara Roesler, Sao Paulo in August 2008 and Sicardi Gallery, Houston, TX in October 2008
