André Pretorius’s paintings are executed with a tightly controlled style that reflects the influence of old masters and Renaissance techniques. Emulating dynamic compositions of Mannerist masterpieces, Pretorius wryly pokes fun at very modern day obsessions with fashion and image in idiosyncratic, comic scenes where these preoccupations are rendered absurd.
