Javier Piñón’s collages are culled from vintage source material to create dynamic scenes featuring his iconographic protagonist, the American Cowboy, confronting chaotic and absurd obstacles. The figures are forced to face their limitations in these comic-tragedies creating both compositional and psychological tension. The inevitable falls and rebounds of the rodeo transform into larger metaphors for the struggles and cycles of life.
