Laden fuer Nichts Presents: Kerstin Schiefner Since its foundation, Laden fuer Nichts, initiated by Uwe-Karsten Guenther in Leipzig in 1998, has changed many times. First the shop was run as a small exhibition and performance space in a former shop and primarily provided an opportunity for local artists to present their work. From the very beginning Uwe-Karsten Guenther rejected a programmatic approach to presenting exhibitions and events. Instead the space was newly defined by each exhibition or performance, enabling a space for solo and group shows for almost every type of media or working method. Often the location turned into a space for bands, parties and an array of other social actions with a performative character. Guenther saw himself neither as curator nor gallerist but as enabler of a variety of artistic actions outside the constraints of a typical gallery program. Essential to the project was and is the close and non-hierarchial collaboration with all participants. The willingness of the artists to not only exhibit their works but to also engage in discussion and share in related work revolving around the project forms the basis of all exhibitions and performances at Laden fuer Nichts. A central part of the attitude behind Laden fuer Nichts is a commitment to risk-taking, a more spontaneous or immediate approach and the courage to engage in a variety of contexts and situations.
