Daredevil who plays at pretending to frighten (himself), Alain Declercq instils his work with a heavy close of schizophrenia. His photos as well as his videos oscillate between two different rythms and two realities. Seeing the images of Paris invaded by assault tanks... one 14th of july (Etat de Siège), the spectator’s reactions is panic followed by a smile of relief. His last series of photos is just as bewildering: the artist drives around a smart area of Montréal on a platform over-equipped with flooflights. The black and white plates could be those of a burglar checking out security firm for these sleeping households... Fear in the streets or tranquillity in the home?
