TARO NASU opened in 1998. The gallery was originally based in the Shokuryo Building with Tomio Koyama Gallery and Rice Gallery (organized by Gallery Koyanagi and Shugoarts), creating together a new tide in the Japanese contemporary art scene. Due to the demolition of the Shokuryo Building, TARO NASU moved to a new space in Roppongi – an area rapidly evolving as the new center of contemporary art in Tokyo – in 2003. In 2006, TARO NASU opened a second gallery in Osaka. The interior of the space was designed by Jun Aoki, one of Japanese most famous architects.
